So please report in if you see something shit.
|>>|| No. 15433
1. This box is fully transparent.
2. Board-specific backgrounds don't appear on /*/ posts, with the exception of /emo/.
3. Posting password is doesn't save and so posts can't be deleted as a user (may be a user-side issue).
4. Mod buttons have gone.
|>>|| No. 15434
Thanks. Yeah it's the last two I'm particularly looking at - believe it is a browser issue, but those are the ones I'm concentrating on.
|>>|| No. 15435
Whenever I switch boards it asks me to save a password which looks quite long, it's been happening for a month or so but looks like you might be aware of this.
|>>|| No. 15436
Other lads have already posted all the bugs I experience, but just adding that I experience them too. Using Firefox on both desktop and mobile.
The password thing appears unique to desktop, fairly sure I've been able to delete posts alright from my phone.
|>>|| No. 15438
Firefox, I assume it's the latest version and Windows 10.
The actual password might mean something to you, it carries on and then has what I believe is a password (A collection of letters and numbers)
|>>|| No. 15441
Yeah, can confirm 4. I've been logging in from mobile safari (latest iOS for phone and tablet) and it's a pain in the tits without the mod buttons.
|>>|| No. 15442
Thanks. We haven't actually changed any of the code with the site for a little while (at least not during the time this broke), so I'm still working on the assumption its a browser/security change.
|>>|| No. 15448
I have adblock plus, no script and Ublock
Hey, it works for me.
|>>|| No. 15451
Sometimes I click on a thread and it doesn't show the last 10-15 posts. Even if I click the "last 50 posts" it still doesn't show those last dozen or so posts. It does this on both my phone and my PC (Chrome on both).
|>>|| No. 15452
It'll be related to how the site is cached in your browser, but refreshing the page fixes it (on my machine) and it only occurs if I've opened the same thread like that before.
|>>|| No. 15454
I think I have fixes for (3) and (4) now. Just trying to figure out how to roll them out.
One interesting bug I never knew was there - you couldn't actually ever change your posting password. Fixing that too, and making it so that you can actually see it - will help with multiple devices.
|>>|| No. 15490
That's a very difficult thing to do modm8 - (and yes, I am commenting on a deleted post, because we can both see them).
I am thinking deeply about the ban process though, because as you khow, we have a database of about 10 years+ of bans (comprising precisely 10582 bans) and some of those are starting to get in the way of real people.
|>>|| No. 15491
>comprising precisely 10582 bans
I understand this is a problem but it really made me smile. Annoyingly elitist, indeed.
|>>|| No. 15492
I might publish some graphs one day - the early days, where we were open to a lot more countries, had a lot more bans. There are plenty of bans you don't see because of spam/faggotry but I would estimate the rate at less than one per day now.
|>>|| No. 15493
I know 420chan has the capability to do either that, or something with an equivalent function.
|>>|| No. 15494
That's 2.4 (mostly) permabans per day, averaged out over the site's entire existence. That's not exactly right as I couldn't be arsed tofind our exact birthday.
|>>|| No. 15495
Do expired bans get archived somewhere, too? I'd fucking love to see graphs of keywords like "grammar" in the ban reason.
|>>|| No. 15497
Over the whole period, that's about right - but as I said, it has slowed down a lot in recent years as we got more selective about which countries could post.
|>>|| No. 15498
Our birthday is about now. I will dig out the exact date. I registered the domain name quite a while before we launched, and you'll all remember the shenanigans from last month around that anniversary. So it's probably about now-ish.
|>>|| No. 15499
Oh I definitely know the bans are much more sporadic than they used to be, I bet we were on 5 or 6 bans a day at least during the most populated years. I feel like now the bans are the occasional visitor not understanding how to conduct himself, and that one other lad, you know the one.
I think there is evidence of a birthdate sequestered on the site still.
|>>|| No. 15501
When you upload a pic and take one with the camera instead of choosing a pre-formatted image, brian borks the aspect ratio. I'm assuming it just doesn't preserve the aspect ratio of an image taken for the purpose of uploading rather than taken first and chosen from your gallery.
|>>|| No. 15509
I can hide threads, but once I refresh they come right back. Apologies if this has already been brought up.
|>>|| No. 15510
It hasn't, but thanks - it's all the same bug; browsers nowadays are a lot more finnicky about how we store preferences, passwords, cookies and things like that. Fix is coming.
|>>|| No. 15524
Android Firefox has updated and is even more frustrating to use Brian on than before.
|>>|| No. 15525
Interesting, thanks. I've never actually seen the site on Android. Is Chrome better?
|>>|| No. 15528
Can anyone else not delete their posts or is it just me? If I make a post then immediately go to delete it, it says the address has changed and I can only report it.
|>>|| No. 15529
It's not just you. Until purple sorts it, just report it and the mods can see if the reporter and poster are the same IP.
|>>|| No. 15530
Hidden threads don't stay hidden any more.
Firefox on Windows.

We really have to fix this bug. Everyone uses star but (even if I say so myself) some boards look much better in native mode.
BTW I have fixed the delete bug in the dev version but the FUCKING HIDE THREAD one eludes me still. Soon.
|>>|| No. 15534
Also x 10 - in the past couple of days I have considered the idea of stopping moderators from accidentally banning each other. I used to find it highly amusing that I could get banned (regularly) from my own site, but I can see that not everybody feels the same.
|>>|| No. 15535
Nah. I've been banned and suspect I banned another moderator in the past 3 days, it's fine.
|>>|| No. 15536
I was just having a teary because I assumed he knew me better than that and it broke my streak mate, I'd have probably banned me too. I'm over it now honest.
I've often thought the report page could have inline preview of the sentry entries related to that IP rather than a background window popping up so you can get a better idea of what is going on, as sometimes people will report a post just because they disagree with it rather than because it's against the rules and on further inspection that poster is an otherwise pretty good contributor or a mod.
Having the option to just click 1 day or Spam instead of typing in 86400 seconds or Spam every time would make the site easier to moderate on a tablet, if you're dabbling with the mod tools.
|>>|| No. 15537
If it has existed for ages, I think I stumbled across it years ago, though I've forgotten how or where now. It might had been a outbuilding-dwelling rodent based url, if you catch my drift.
|>>|| No. 15538
As an outsider I've always felt mods should be made to observe the same bans as everyone else as a learning tool. Can't have double standards otherwise you become immune to the plight of the plebs.
|>>|| No. 15539
I will at least add some warnings. I don't want to bust your anonymity either, or your freedom to post whatever you think fit or amusing. Definitely dabbling with the mod tools though.
|>>|| No. 15540
Totally agree - and that's why I've always viewed my own bans with the same lens.
|>>|| No. 15541
If anything it just proves that we're not paying enough attention to be playing favourites, and that's a good thing for a community.
I agree and gave up trying to point out that the whole ban-by-number-of-seconds thing is idiotic years ago now.
|>>|| No. 15542
This does explain some of the slightly left-field accusations that have been made recently; if a mod has been over-tracking posts. Maybe look at /sentry/ less often, it's fairer if we only use it when we have to, puts us all on a more even keel.
|>>|| No. 15543
I usually check sentry after a report if I can't discern why I should be banning it at face value and only for that IP (which is, I assume, it's purpose) but I don't use it otherwise. What accusations are you referring to, btw?
It seems like something worth stamping down on, especially if people are trying to use sentry to dox each other or out Americans and Nepal lads as used to happen back in the day, but if that has happened to anyone recently it's slipped through the cracks.
|>>|| No. 15544
Please purple, fix this. I don't want to see the guilty would thread any more.
|>>|| No. 15558
Youtube embeds are still acting fucky, I almost banned this lad for (re)posting that creepy clip of kids dancing, only he didn't post that.
|>>|| No. 15559
I haven't seen that happen - which board was it in (I see the original one in /iq/).
|>>|| No. 15579
I think that's the link someone made when purple forgot to renew the domain name.
|>>|| No. 15581
Just checked and it's just a duplicate DNS entry, not a full-blown mirror.
britfa.pantsu.org has address 22.214.171.124
britfa.gs has address 126.96.36.199
|>>|| No. 15583
Not sure if bug or no, youtube links failed when using yt tags. One had timestamp, other did not. The third worked correctly with only a link, no tag.
|>>|| No. 15584
If it's the same problem I've been having then it's not just .gs but seems to be occurring on embeds across imageboards.
|>>|| No. 15608
Hovering over quoted post number doesn't preview post anymore.
On Firefox 83
|>>|| No. 15610
brian just deleted a post without redirecting me to the ban page. Mobile browsing and modding seems to be actively getting worse over time.
|>>|| No. 15640
Probably a known issue, but Firefox apparently isn't saving my post password at all (I thought it was stored as a cookie, but it seems to be wanting to save it as a website password - like it was a password field in a form) as I can't delete a post even within a minute after making it.
|>>|| No. 15652
So hiding threads isn't working either. From reading the entire thread this time it looks like it's a recent security change rather than a britfa-side code change that's causing these problems.
The only one that springs to mind would be the third party cookie blocking that was made standard recently. I know this site makes use of jquery (and grabs code from code.jquery.org) - if you're setting cookies from code that's been pulled from a thirty party domain then browsers should be blocking that now and that would certainly explain the current mess.
You might want to have a play around with hosting the jquery code locally and seeing if that doesn't fix the issue.
|>>|| No. 15655
It is definitely security changes in browsers and not fucking around on our part - actually really like your jQuery suggestion, I will try that, thanks.
|>>|| No. 15658
When I'm clicking last 50 posts of the big threads it's not showing me all of them. When I click view thread it's the same problem.
This is most apparent in the Seppo Civil War thread.
|>>|| No. 15659
Are you sure it's not a cache issue? I have to refresh to make it work most of the time.
|>>|| No. 15661
It is a caching issue but really it shouldn't exist. I don't know of any other website where I need to f5-reload a page when I revisit it in order to see the changes that have happened between visits (I vaguely remember it being a thing in the late 90s). It could probably be fixed with the addition of a Cache-control HTTP header or by making postspy trigger instantly when a thread is loaded before it settles into its usual routine.
|>>|| No. 15692
Why'd "b*ffled" a filtered word? Did I miss something?
|>>|| No. 15695
Was going to post a link to the youtube video in question for humours effect but it seems that triggers an auto ban. Evidently this is a much more serious topic than I expected.
|>>|| No. 15700
It was pretty tedious at the time. Fucking christ how long have I been here?
|>>|| No. 15702
Probably at least 10 years. If you remember the insurgence of pisskidney, jizzcock, cretinous inchworms and apelike fists, then I'm sure your tedium will be enhanced.
Would be nice to have a nostalgia thread but gratuitous wanking like that isn't something I want to be seen doing.
|>>|| No. 15703
Last time I posted ape-like fists someone thought I was being racist.
The one I don't miss is when everyone was constantly accused of having a teary.
|>>|| No. 15704
Was teacock (like someone dipping their willy in a cup of tea) a thing here or is that some half remembered fragment of a fever dream I had?
It's all a bit blurry in my head tbh.
|>>|| No. 15705
I think IRC had something about washing a dick in a glass that they tried to import and it never took.
|>>|| No. 15706
That was mumsnet wasn't it? Which also reminds me of the hacker lad who "hacked" mumsnet, pretended to be the admin and posted some shite on there. That was a laugh.
Maybe I just made up the teacock thing, entirely possible.
|>>|| No. 15707
That was from mumsnet and nothing to do with the IRC. The chip on your shoulder is astonishing.
|>>|| No. 15709
IIRC they made the mistake of not ensuring they had secured their access after the fact by e.g. changing the password or creating extra admin accounts, so the fun was short-lived. Would have been fun to take down Prosecco Stormfront properly from the inside.
|>>|| No. 15710
I am only relaying what I half remember from a decade ago, I don't really care where it came from.
The fact you would take my rather neutral recalling of events as me havine a "The chip on your shoulder" speaks volumes about your hang ups though.
|>>|| No. 15712
I don't know what you're talking about, but it was Heartbleed that allowed our resident hacker on steroids to inform Mumsnetters that GLC were a great bunch of lads to go on the lash with.
|>>|| No. 15713
U avin a teary ladm7? Can't even call someone your property without getting looked at sideways nowadays.
I do worry about calling the wrong kid a cheeky monkey one day. Is society taking the right path with this?
|>>|| No. 15714
Just start calling them cheeky little cunts. I think that's more politically correct nowadays.
|>>|| No. 15715
Has the SSL cert expired again? I'm getting weird warnings on Safari.
|>>|| No. 15717
Apologies for that lads, my auto-renewing script was broken, fixed again.
|>>|| No. 15736
Can we please have 'hide thread' fixed. I will make you a nice cake if you do.
|>>|| No. 15737
You're going to look at Carol Vorderman every day and you'll bloody well like it.
|>>|| No. 15901
What's the point in finding transparant PNGs and contributing to
quality content when they don't even show up properly.
|>>|| No. 15918
No, seriously, when? Did I miss something? Has this been abandoned? Is it something I need to fix on my end? What's happening?
|>>|| No. 15922
Is sage only meant to be broken on /*/? Because I tried to visit a thread on its actual board before replying to it, to ensure I could reply and definitely not bump it, but it got bumped anyway.
It's hardly a crisis so I'll sage here too and see if this one also bumps. If so, I guess it's every board where sage is broken.
|>>|| No. 15923
To save anyone else making test posts, my post above is now saged on /shed/ but not saged on /*/. Perhaps /*/ ignores sage completely.
