300559 Weekend thread
The old weekend thread seems to have dropped off the front page.

I have just had a semi-inspiring, semi-depressing PhD meeting. I will spend Friday night in some horrible nightclub with awful people spending money I don't have. Saturday will be spent crying over a funding proposal and contemplating my first ever /emo/ thread. On the upside I might have a date tomorrow evening, unless I send the wrong type of drunk text later.

What are you doing this weekend lads?

I'm just about to go have a PhD meeting myself, actually. The university's fucked me over a bit. They made 25 paid PhD studentships available in the faculty of science to new members of staff only and I applied for one under the new member in our department. After I submitted the proposal they changed the rules so that they were going to decide which members of staff got the studentships and then reopen those projects for more applicants. So basically, the project that has my name on the front cover became available for any Tom, Dick or Harry to come and apply for. The advert's been taken off the website now, though, so I'm just off to find out if anyone else applied for it or not.

I have a presentation on my final year project to give on Monday morning, so I'll be sorting out what's going in the slides when I get home from the uni. Mate's having a barbecue tonight and has promised us all a "special surprise." Last night he was boasting that it's probably the best surprise he's ever planned for anyone. We'll see.

Off to get fitted for a suit tomorrow morning, then spending the rest of the day outlet shopping.

Sunday I will probably be in a stress about my presentation.

BBQ after work tonight in this scorching heat, not really sure about tomorrow but Sunday is going to be an all day bender involving some pubs and a 12 hour gig in a beer tent. I'll be getting stupidly smashed and hoping for some more intimacy with a friend that I like more than I should.

Monday, probably wishing I was dead.

I'm torn about going out tonight on account of the huge blister-like spot on my face. Fuck sake I shouldn't have to deal with this shit in my 20's and it has got me in a proper bad mood.

Other than that I plan on sitting in all weekend and maybe going to the pub all day Saturday regardless of if half my face has been eaten off

As after a pint all ideas seem like good ideas, needless to say I spent the rest of the night in an MXE haze with my dealer and his mate, collapsed in a sedated cuddle pile on some friend of a friend's bed not being able to move for the heat or extreme sense of comfort.

I despise this sort of art, because it reinforces the idea that somehow something only has to be 'new' and 'unique' to be considered innovative, rather than actually being creative in any meaningful sense. What we have here is just fucking pointless.

I especially like this description, where it seems like the author decided to put random fancy-sounding words together in an effort to seem intelligent - "This exploration of the in-tensions of extensions, when, rather than simply extending into the world, movement develops a centrifugal force, likewise argues that the movement of affective intensity is the way in which the body activates its inherent capacity for change."

JUST SAY THAT THE MAN PUTS HIS FUCKING ARM OUT AND IT BENDS, AND THAT THIS REPRESENTS OUR ABILITY TO CHANGE YOU IGNORANT, SELF-IMPORTANT, PSEUDO-INTELLECTUAL, HIPSTER CUNT.

It's not so much that, that there is this perpetual cycle of not particularly bright or talented artists that fool each other into being impressed with each other's work through faux-intellectual and meaningless discourse (such as that crap I posted above). The cycle continues because it promotes people who are good at bullshitting rather than people who are good at art, and those two don't seem to go hand in hand for some reason.

However, later in the night she text me saying she wanted to see me so I told her to come meet me at a house party I was at. I got split up from my friend as he went elsewhere so the girl and I ended up back at his and spent the night shagging in his bed. For the second time.

He was proper raging when he got back... Not looking forward to awkwardly trying to make it up to him as he can be right huffy.

I'm probably going to wank this one away, lads. Waiting for my new RAM to arrive before I bother doing owt with my PC and my recent venture into hand-made cruiser skateboards (pic related) as a money-earner has come to a halt until some trucks arrive.

This evenings events were cancelled due to a variety of reasons. It's pissing it down anyway.

Tomorrow I will go have brunch somewhere pretentious, yet cheap, then pretend to work, whilst in fact probably shitposting here. The evening is free, but I suspect I will just go to bed early.

Sunday I am going for a Korean meal with a lovely female friend.

I'm not sure you understand the multiple interpretations of your use of the word 'horrible'. You seem to speak English as a second language. For that you might be forgiven, though not by all. You chose to misspell the word 'more' in such a way that is frowned upon in these parts.

Also of note, you criticised the OP for his sociability. I think we're fairly atypical as far as image boards go in that regard. We provide refuge for many a hermit, though they know their place well enough not to display what might be perceived as jealousy.

If you ever again find yourself wanting a critique of your conduct on our fine image board, you know where to find me. Or rather you don't. Oh well.

I have little familiarity with art, but I can use Google.

http://explow.com/nighthawks
http://arte-factoheregesperversoes.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/pintura-remake-4.html

Many more can be found with Google Image Search. The image that prompted your question is Banksy's 2005 take on Edward Hopper's Nighthawks, of 1942. You might be familiar with Banksy, but if not, he has made countless pieces commenting on what's wrong with Britian.

And by that I mean I broke the light in his room by jump-punching it in drunken stupor. Luckily he found it hilarious as I'm not really the type to go over the top on a night out. I've since apologised and said I'd pay.

I also got some brief alone time with the girl I like, but if anything was intended by it I missed it and nothing happened. Oh well.

The reason why .gs is dying is because the community or at least the sense of community (whatever wanky bollocks that is) has gone. I believe this place used to have an IRC but that's now dead so the interesting posters don't bother with here anymore. This leads to the dregs of Krautchan, 4chan and other places becoming the main contingent rather than a group of British disaffected alcoholics (who used to form the majority of the users). The other moderately popular chans (99chan, 420chan and even Ylilauta) all have IRC channels brimming with activity so one way to stem the slow death this place will eventually succumb to is by putting an IRC link somewhere.

I have a question for the OP of this thread, if he's knocking about. (I am>>300561)

How is the PhD business going? I just got my email telling me the university are posting my offer letter. I applied in time for the deadline back in early March and got an email saying "You'll know within a month."

I have until sometime in September to write my main proposal. Another person whose PhD I worked on as a research assitant on will be seeing me for a week over summer and I am hoping to persuade her to write the boring parts of it, as well as some other stuff. I'm sort of demotivated at the moment due to being knackered by various pre-PhD type things, however I've effectively written it all in my head and have shitloads of fieldwork leads that most actual professors can only dream of.

Depending on which uni it is I wouldn't be too worried, as some have notoriously shitty admin staff. The place where I did my MA was awful on this front, as is the place I'm currently working and half-studying at now.

My supervisor wrote mine for me, I guess I got off very lucky in that respect. Aside from filling in a form, I've had to do literally no work towards getting this PhD - unless you count being fucked about by office staff for three months.
What baffles me is how the university didn't snap his hand off as soon as he submitted it, since the first page clearly stated that we'll be working with a man who has a Nobel Prize in Physics under his belt.

I think a permanent link to the IRC is needed somewhere, perhaps next to the list of boards. I know of 4chan women who lurk on gs and would probably shag the lot of you horny cunts, if they just knew how to get into contact with everyone. One of those dirty slags even asked me if .gs ever has contact information sharing threads.

No updates on this thread so I'm assuming you're all having as much fun as myself. Sitting in with tonsillitis, watching rubbish on TV, wishing I could eat something with out it hurting.

I'm hoping to feel a bit better tomorrow so I can go out with my girlfriend and her friends to the pub. I won't be drinking of course but I can't be bothered sitting in. Don't want to infect her though. I'm not actually sure how contagious this is.

I had a pretty decent night. Went to a friends house and did a load of coke for the first time. On the way there a gay lad who looked like the wrestler of the recent Apprentice series stopped me on the street and offered to buy me a drink. Worryingly the reason I gave for declining was that I'm going to a friends house rather than the fact that I'm not even gay.

You are bi-curious, although it might be linked to some sort of submissive fantasy of being overpowered by another guy or a woman forcing you to do stuff with another guy. Don't give yourself a hard time about it m8.

Went to work. Sinuses got blocked up from a dusty work environment. Met the girl who I used to like's boyfriend, I think I'm actually over her now. Had to get a fathers day card and on the way ash from my cigarette went straight into my eye. Bought Hearts of Iron 3 for £2. Bought my mum a book and hid it the carrier bag in such a way that no one could see it and think I was some weirdo who bought a romantic fiction book but ended looking like a weirdo who was crying holding a semi-transparent bag awkwardly with a game that had an iron cross on the cover.

Oh and when buying the card it was very busy (as it would the day before fathers day) I couldn't find my money.

My day has been a corrigan and a half.

Sitting in, waiting for the rain to pass. I've been watching documentaries with someone I like over the internet. About space, mostly. I have also received an amusing hat which I hope will endear me to my nephew in the shape of a fuzzy lion. I'll test that one out tomorrow.

I intended to go out today to buy my dad a gift for Sunday, given it is father's day tomorrow. I know of an album from a group he'd like... At the same time? My mother already got him some beers in my name and every other time I've tried to put the effort in presents for him the results have been disastrous. So beers, or beers and album, .gs?

Some girl I work with was flirting with me earlier, I think. I've been flirted with before and should expect to recognise it with an acceptable degree of accuracy, but the situation left me befuddled. We've never gotten along very well or liked each other.

For example, about a month ago she was whinging about a headache. I told her about a fictional friend of mine who'd had just the same symptoms and died of a brain tumor. I mean, there wasn't anything else to be had for entertainment. She glared at me and said I was weird, and I shrugged and went back to work. I didn't really bother to acknowledge her for the next three weeks. She's perfectly alright but I don't particularly like her. She also has a boyfriend of 8 months who works with us and has always been decent in my interactions with him, so I've very little interest in getting involved i that.

She's quite attractive physically and when she started smiling and giggling I was entranced. In retrospect, I find her actions suspect and this seems like it's going somewhere I don't want to be.

If she's got a boyfriend, she's fucking with you for attention. Things are going sour back home, so why not look for a little fun at work? The flirting probably won't develop into a full-blown sexual relationship unless things really get bad with her partner or you keep piling on the pressure from your end (which sounds like it isn't going to happen).

In short? More trouble than it's worth. She's probably just trying to see what she can get away with.

My missus went a bit funny when she found out I've been using my phone to browse porn when I fancy a crafty wank and then insisted that we watch some porn together last night. After a few videos that didn't do anything for me, I pretended to be interested in an anal video she picked. Bit of foreplay later and I'm right in the chocolate bon bon factory.

I don't think it makes much of a difference. As far as I'm aware, which could be way off the mark, most people who find anal painful or uncomfortable do so because it has been put in at a funny angle, it has caught some skin around the arsehole, have used too much/little lube or it has been jammed in before they've had chance to relax or get in the mood. Get that right and it doesn't matter how hard you bum them.

I'm seeing a girl 8 years older than me, career type (though as far from the bitchy stereotype imaginable), who a couple of weeks ago decided that we should take things back a step because a) I confessed I 'cheated' on her a few months back, even though we weren't official boyfriend-girlfriend, and b) she is setting her life up and I'm a drug-using, partying, no-self regard younger guy. This friday she rings me up for a 'chat', we do the dirty, and after leaving I immediately go out and spent the night at a number of locations, first on the MD and liqour, then after a brief 3 hour sleep at 10am, start straight on the ketamine continuing my drinking which is fast approaching the 36 hour mark. Most friends leave at 9pm, she rings me up saturday night around 10:30pm wanting to 'hang out', I go round and we have sex twice, fall asleep then stay at hers most of today eating greasy food watching movies and the obvious. Feels good, although I've been thinking for a while how much longer my body can put up with the abuse. I quite like this girl, and it always feels good to piece the older lady - but not too old.. we're both below 30, so despite being fine as fuuaaark she still has all her youth intact. Pretty good situation on the whole.

Honestly mate it just kind of happened, without tooting my own horn I'm lucky in that when I'm on point I can charm the pants off anyone, even gender knows know bounds - I'm straight though. This came about through just having genuine, sincere conversation with her at a party, then she asked me back to hers. I didn't see her for a while, then we started hanging out, things progressed to every week or two on the weekend, to texting each other, to seeing each other every day, all over an 8 month period. The downside of this is that when I'm not on point I can appear to be an aspergers waste of time.

Older women have had their fair share of dickheads, so sincerity and confidence combined with a touch of youthful cockiness (in the right doses) is the key I think. Always worked for me.
