I once spent a week away from the site, whilst camping in Cornwall. No signal. It was hell tbh. It was one of the few times something bad happened and it went down for about 12 hours because a disk filled up. Nowadays maroon does all the good coding work and I love her for it. But I still visit at least 5 times a day (it's still the first thing I look at every morning and the last thing I look at night) but I probably argue with people for fun a lot, lot less. I used to be able to identify patterns of people and who was posting, but I can't nowadays, it's all got a lot more RANDUM.

I'd always assumed that mods and admins had the ability to identify people fairly easily anyway? Does that mean bans are given on a post by post basis? Have you locked yourself out of the system to prevent abuse, are you like Finch from Person of Interest?

That's slightly unfair.

Quiggins was an old warehouse on the edge of Liverpool town centre that rented out cheap retail units, filled with broadly "alternative" shops - places that sold Slipknot hoodies and Wiccan sundries, vintage clothing shops, piercing and tattoo places, and a variety of odd antique and junk shops. It was the preferred hangout of Liverpool's goths and weirdos who were too young to get into the Krazyhouse.

It was broadly similar in spirit to Affleck's Palace in Manchester or Camden Lock back in the day. Quiggins was demolished in 2006 to make way for the Liverpool One shopping centre; Most of the traders subsequently moved to the old Grand Central Hall on Renshaw Street.

Bizarrely, the owner (Pete Tierney) turned out to be a fascist - he was a big BNP supporter, was convicted of assaulting an anti-fascist protester in 2009 and ran for mayor as a National Front candidate in 2012.

Styles have merged to the point where there doesn't seem to be an 'alternative'. Partially shaved and brightly coloured hairstyles, tattoos, piercings, they're all very common now. The high street is more effective than ever at snapping up new trends thanks to people more or less liveblogging their tastes online. I honestly don't think we'll see many countercultural movements since the main channels of communication for youth are so public. It's the same reason why a visual technique that appears in a popular YouTube clip or an obscure music video will be replicated on an advert only weeks later.

You could argue that youth trends have always been commercial and cynically coopted, but surely not quite so fast as it happens now.

I was watching the Red Riding trilogy, thinking about Savile and his ilk and looking to some of my employers who were coming up around about that time and I really have to ask any resident oldfags that might be here:

What the fuck happened in the 1970s?

My reading of the 60s was that they were full of hope and promise up until around May 68, then something went horribly awry. Culture didn't seem to make it back onto the right track until a brief spell in the early 90s which was swiftly disrupted.

What went wrong?

I fully accept a ban for use of the epithet 'oldfag' which I probably learnt from another chan site

"There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning.…

And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.…

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back."

More memorable lines include "I demand to have some booze" "I call it a camberwell carrot, because it was invented in camberwell and it looks like a carrot." and "I want cake, cake and the finest wines known to humanity."

Also the bit about not mixing your drinks. Also...fuck I could go on all night. Almost any line from that film is more famous than the one you quoted.

I'm fine, thanks for asking.

Last time I connected to the IRC my proxy fell over while I was AFK and I never reconnected/replied after getting a message from Green I saw when I came back. I feel really guilty about this now. I don't understand why anyone want try and combine a "forced anonymous" imageboard with a chat room with forced identities, it seems like an obvious contradiction. I've never bothered with it, but from the few occasions where drama from the IRC has spilled over onto the site, it appears to suffer from all the usual insipid cliquey shit, petty grudges and egos, that always characterised niche IRC channels (and frankly it's not like we're short on most of that here as is).

I visited a few times a few years ago. When people weren't idling, which appears to be the primary purpose of IRC these days, they were talking about stupid bullshit I had no interest in. Sort of alternating between 'I got mashed on ket in a field on Tuesday' and the intricacies of assembly languages. Whenever I tentatively said something it was completely ignored. Totally got the sense I didn't belong, and haven't been back since. As >>13202 says whenever IRC-related stuff crops up on the site it serves as a reminder I made the right choice not to invest any of my time in it.

We've got a few "lunatics in the asylum", to quote purple, and we need to protect other users from that as best we can which in this case meant banning you, at least temporarily. If you can still get on the server use the /msg command to contact a shape-shifting reptilian and we'll have a chat about it.

Fucks sake. This is the first time I've been able to access the site from Florida in ages. I've been in three different relationships since the last time. Missed this place

Are there any plans to introduce webm posting?

I've been asking for spoiler images for about four years, so good luck with that.

Working .gif thumbnails would be a nice touch too.

Oh please no. Maybe a gif indicator, but I really quite like that I can read through the pages without anything moving unless I scroll.

Working .gif thumbnails is actually a legacy feature, it was removed although I can't remember why.

The priorities at the minute as far as I'm aware are sorting out HTTPS and YT embeds, maybe updating the mobile site, but for what it's worth to >>13415 I've seen maroon testing webm functionality recently. The likes of 4chan and 420chan have several people working on codes, whereas we have one guy with a wife and a couple of kids and no time and another guy with some time, but no motivation.

When it does get updated, it'll all get done at once when one or both of our admins get either time or the motivation to do so. You just have to be patient. Nothing is fundamentally broken at the minute, unless anyone want to mention something, so just bear with us.

On that subject, sometimes stuff breaks and you don't bother telling us for some reason so if you do see something make a thread about it or bump an old one.

This post reveals too much information about Dear Leader. You and the next 2 generations of your family will be banned for this.
