Never mind that, the word 'problematic' should be a /101/ post.

Eh, well I never used to use it - but recently I've fallen into the habit. The problem is that when I try and check myself and use alternative words it suddenly seems so much trickier than just calling something complex and contested 'problematic'.

The only real problem is that it's been used into oblivion by tumblr-SJW-feminazi types.

I use it as a polite, semi-ironic understatement. Like drinking two bottles of whiskey a day could have some problematic effects on your health.

I play bingo on sjw blogs and articles I read for sneer value with this word. I cheer whenever I find it.

To me the word 'problematic' seems to mean "this is is bad but I can't really express how". Worst buzzword of 2014.

Buzzword? It seems a bit older than that:

problematic (adj.) c.1600, "doubtful, questionable," from French problematique (15c.), from Late Latin problematicus, from Greek problematikos "pertaining to a problem," from problematos, genitive of problema (see problem). Specific sense in logic, differentiating what is possible from what is necessarily true, is from 1610s. Related: Problematical (1560s); problematically.

Problematic is a buzzword? Why? It's just a word.

I was unaware the word's meaning had shifted so I searched

site:tumblr.com problematic

and google's first page is mostly from http://yourfaveisproblematic.tumblr.com/

It's classic get-offended-by-absolutely-everything Tumblr.

Well I have a fisherpersony friend who often uses it to describe things that are oppressive without being obvious or intentional, but it's apparently a well-established term in social justice circles - or so I assume, or the Anti-fisherperson League wouldn't be here on /101/ decrying the fact that they see it all the time on those websites that they never visit because they hate them.
