4975 Khat
I know it's not the most exciting of drugs, but it's legal, and I was rather looking forward to sampling its buzz with a friend. That is, until we failed to locate any.

So, .gs, do any of you know where to find khat (also seen it spelled chat, ghat)? We followed a couple of leads up through Camden and Kentish Town, in search of Somali-owned cafés and shops, but had no luck. The locals didn't seem to have a clue either.

Any mention of the stuff on the web is 2 to 10 years out of date, so I'm pretty stumped.

I'm going to sound like a massive racist here, if I suggest that the locals were (probably) not telling you if you're white. I can't even go into the Somali area to buy coriander without getting evils, so I doubt they're going to divulge their secrets to obvious outsiders.

Make some first-generation friends, and have a look on the drug forums (Bluelight etc.) to see if anyone's mentioning it in the stims sections.

Isn't it something from Yemen/Oman rather than Somalia? Might want to try those areas/communities.

Anglesea Road. It's like the somali equivalent of chinatown and is literally two minutes walk from the train station. Come out of the station, turn left and walk straight up, it's the second (or maybe the third) road on your left. Following your purchase go back the way you came and get the fuck out of Woolwich on the first train that comes along. This place is such a shithole that the riots barely made the news because it seemed like just another night.

You can buy it online, can't you? You could last I checked and it wasn't all that expensive, either.

One of my mates once went in search of it in South London. He ended up getting some and it wasnt really very nice, but on his journey he did find a shisha bar which sold shishas in £10 or £20 varieties. Dodgy and ghetto as fuck but we went there a bit. Pretty cool.

I stumbled across some finally, advertised in the shop window of an off license near London Bridge. £6 for a bundle like in OP's picture.

It tastes exactly how you'd expect it too, like chewing leaves. It's pretty awful, not something you want to be chewing on for hours really. I soldiered on though and chewed my way through the entire bowl for around three hours and waited patiently....

Shits wack, buzz is very weak and not worth a mouth full of plant for 3 hours. Should have bought a bottle of wine.

A really nice Somalian chap gave me a little bit on the tube a couple of weeks ago. I didn't chew it straight away. I put it in the fridge for a couple of days and it wilted really badly. When I chewed it, it disintegrated and I didn't want to swallow the fucker so I spat it out. Needless to say it had no effect.

Curiously though, the next night I had the worst screaming (and slightly physical) row with my girlfriend that we have ever had in all 8 years we've been together. Could be a coincidence but maybe not.

Watching her close down an incredibly lucrative business which was based through Heathrow, paying UK tax worth god know's how many hundreds of millions makes me sleep a lot better at night.

I know this is an old thread, but Khat gives you the kind of buzz smoking does.

I don't understand why she did it. It is not as bad as weed, alcohol or fags but she went ahead and ignored it all. Why? Now, it will be pushed underground when they were paying fucking tariffs before to bring it into the country. Who was behind this? Some evil Somali billionaire who funds the Tories? Are we going to have new gangs now? Sigh, life gets a little tedious everyday.

Because there's little political loss and plenty of political gain. A lot of the electorate in this country still have a very conservative attitude to drugs, this is a gift to them.

Sorry but I doubt any of them knew anything about Khat, it's not exactly headline-making stuff. Middle class kids were not dying after having choked to death on badly-chewed Klarky-Khat in some Barrett-house cul-de-sac.

Two birds with one stone. The Tories get to look tough on crime because they're taking action against dirty druggies, and they're having a pop at the foul habits of muzzies. A lot of the publicity implied that the khat trade was being used to fund terrorism. They're desperate for policies that will appeal to UKIP voters, so this is a no-brainer for them.

Well that at least makes some sense, even if it is utter tosh.

This. It's one of those policies that will win over the fruitcakes without making them look racist.

I reckon it's the type of policy that they think will win back the fruitcakes. They won't actually woo the fruitcakes back because they don't trust them anymore, they trust UKIP.

David Nutt claims that it's US pressure that's caused this:

Or you could just recognise the fact that half the Tory party is built on socially conservative values, including that of an anti drugs policy.

I don't think it's irrelevant, there are several possible motives for each one. For example, many Labour voters are also socially conservative but don't vote Tory for economic or financial reasons, and Labour think they have nothing to gain since all the pro drugs group vote Lib Dem anyway.

There's several possible explanations. Exercise some critical thinking.

Agreed. The New-Labour government was, essentially, conservative.

>> 5873

My only point was that being socially conservative and/or ignoring the ACMD was not a singularly Tory thing (as your post implied, albeit weakly, that it was). Anyway, whatever, you win. I'll take my uncritical head to bed as I have no energy for a cunt off.

It's not a cunt off, it's a debate.

Sad that the two seem to be the same thing these days.

I didn't imply it was a singularly Tory thing, I said it was a possible explanation for the actions of the Tories, I didn't mention Labour or any other party at all.
