I've got a silly question to ask, be nice.
Basically, my gf smokes occasionally, she got me to try once but i didn't really feel much and haven't gotten around to trying again. Her supplier got himself caught so she hasn't smoked in ages.

I've managed to get paid partly in pot for last week. He said he'd get me "some" though i don't know how much that is. Hopefully enough to be a nice surprise.

Now i need papers and filters but know nothing about them. what do i ask for at the counter so that i don't look like a total muppet? Size? Brand?

This, big blues or big silvers if you're a queer type.

Being a lazy cunt I got myself one of these, it's not even a self-rolling machine as I'm even inept with one of them. £3 for the "stapler" and £1 for 100 tubes, more than enough for my green. Apparently they're designed for particular "make your own" tobacco instead of actual rolling tobacco, though all I do is break up fags anyway.

I might be speaking out of line, but I think a novice would be far better off with a pipe than spliffs. A pipe allows you to take more controlled puffs of smaller amounts of cannabis, which I think is very important given the ludicrous strength of most modern homegrown. A cheap metal pipe costs a couple of quid from a head shop or market stall, and requires zero skill to use.

If she smokes pot she probably has the papers and tobacco she prefers already. If she doesn't keep them around then a pipe as suggested might be nice. Don't buy filters though, that would make you look like a Muppet.

Nope. My friendship group of very regular smokers/dealers has over the last couple of years gradually adopted filters. If it does diminish the effects it's not obviously noticeable.

Rizla if you're some kind of scrub lord. Otherwise get yourself down ali bongos and get yourself some organic hemp Raws, greengo (because baccy is for addicted lads), some roach tips (the cardboard ones you fold not a fag filter) and of course one premium brand Pokey Down Thingy.

If you're smoking hash then then a pipe, even a cheap one, is the way to go. I have extremely fond memories of Nepalese temple ball hash and my cheap hash pipe. I'm really not sure if smoking weed in a hash pipe is a good way to go, though (but then I've never been a massive weed fan).

Seeing as you're a bit green, I have a series of pictures saved from about 7 years ago on how to roll a joint I made. Want me to post them, or can you already handle that side of things?

If you're not already a smoker I don't see why you'd bother with spliffs. Do like >>7263 says and get a pipe, or better yet a cheapo water bong (pipes can be pretty harsh even for smokers).

This is quite a common thing for first time users from what I've read (and in my experience). The first one or two times you may feel a bit odd but not much beyond that. It changes as you get used to it and learn what to look for (or possibly just body chemistry adjusting, who knows).

Here goes then.

This is for your beginner/not really toker in that you use normal rizlas instead of kingsize. This type of spliff I always called an L-Plate. Start off with two normal skins like so. And ignore how horribly untidy my floor was all those years ago.

Oh, nevermind, this isn't an L-plate Rizla. If it was, you would have stopped in the last picture and torn a bit off, in this one you pull the rizlas apart once you've stuck them like in the last picture (to get the gum all over it) then stick them together again like this. Can be a bit tricky to roll for a beginner, so you might want to stick with the L-plate.

Roll it up. I tend to start at the middle here as it's easier to not have it all fall apart. Once you've rolled it a bit between finger and thumb, do the same all the way down, starting near the roach and going towards the end. Make sure it's not too tight or you'll have problems dragging on it.

Once it's all rolled properly, tuck the rizla in and make sure it's all uniform, to get ready for the final roll and sticking.

Poke the end down so it's not all loose and ends up flaming all down one side when you light it. I'm using a stick of cig filters here, also good is the sparky bit out of a clipper.

Twist the end up. Now you can carry it in your pocket or fag packet ready for later if you want, or if you're going to blaze it up immediately just rip it off. Over the years, I've stopped doing this stage and just tearing the bit off instead of twisting it. Mainly because the second I've rolled a joint, it's getting fired up.

Cheers, pretty solid advice. Only things I'd add are that for a newbie rolling with King's is probably easier than farting about with L-plates or the like. Although if OP is used to rolling fags then there isn't really any reason you can't just roll with normal size papers - King's are great for sharing but introduce their own complications.

Also if you roll anywhere near as badly as me your first few attempts will likely be about twice as fat as >>7287.

Lads, I tried a cigarette for the first time. It felt weird. The smoke irritated by throat. Although I didn't cough as much as I thought I would, it still didn't feel nice. The smoke also irritated my eyes.

Anyway, after a couple of draws, all of a sudden I started feeling light-headed a bit, and the world around me seem just very different. Like watching a shit TV all your life, and then switching to a 3D HD TV or whatever. Everything just seemed lovelier and brighter. A few more draws and I needed to sit because I thought I would fall over, and for some reason I sweated a little bit.

After the ordeal, I put it out and just enjoyed the HD world around me. The thing is, after 20 minutes or so, I started feeling nauseous. I still feel like I want to throw up, and if I breath in, or breath out a lot of air, the back of my throat gets irritated and I start coughing. The strong smell of the cigarette doesn't wash off my hand, and it is starting to annoy me. How long will this last? I'm not sure. I might be starting to get a very mild headache too.

Verdict: I won't be trying it again. It isn't enjoyable.

What you experienced is the nicotine rush. It's what smokers crave, but it obviously doesn't cause them nausea.

Have a good long bath and boil wash you clothes, then tumble dry them with a bounce sheet. Take a nip into a car garage and ask to use their bog and wash your hands with the Swarfega soap if you feel like the next step doesn't work, but Cut your nails, use scented moisturiser on your hands. Done.

lol I remember my first one and it was in pre-trial detention in Zurich. They used to give 5 a day for free. I gave mine to a junkie cellmate but after decided to try one myself.
The next 4 months inside I've been busy learning how to roll my own and I stll remember that "marlboro" rolling tobacco, not sure if its still on the market.

I felt really sick, and after I consulted Dr Google, it turns out it isn't wise to have your first cigarette on an empty stomach. I did come down with a really bad headache which I took some Ibuprofen for. I suppose I'm more of a bitch than I realise. Either than or the act of smoking is just pure torture, and I look at smokers differently now. BDSM/S&M.

I had arranged to try some Mary and Jane sometime this week, but now I'm getting cold feet. Considering the reaction I had to smoking cigarettes, which is something mild, I doubt I would like MaryJane. Either way I will try and see how it plays out.

Thank you for the tips. A long bath got rid of the annoyingly bad smell.
