Just swallowed the end of my tongue piercing, anyone got any ideas for how I should keep the bar secure/ temporary solution, until I get a replacement in the morning? At the moment I have a binder clip on the end of my bar, but that doesn't seem too hygienic.

Yeah it isn't, I'd suggest you hold a lighter over your tongue to cauterise the wound and keep it in place. The blue part of the flame should be kept over the bar for about 45-60 seconds. It might hurt a bit so taking a couple cocadomal would be a good idea, but trust me, it works wonders.

Do you have any other jewellery with the same gauge post (usually 1.6mm or 1.2mm) that you can purloin the ball off just to keep it there until the morning? Even if the ball is smaller than the original one, if the threading is the same size it'll go on temporarily.

Other than that I don't think introducing a lighter to your tongue is the best idea. If you've had the piercing for a while the hole should be fairly stable, and I wouldn't expect it to totally close overnight if you took the bar out. Take this as a lesson to always keep spare balls around (you can get them in packs of 10 for stupidly cheap off eBay), check the tightness of the balls regularly (latex gloves are a must for getting purchase on a tongue barbell, and are useful for dealing with piercing jewellery in general) and go out to get a replacement first thing.

Also, are you really that disappointed if it does close? Tongue piercings are pretty rotten on your teeth and dentists hate them with good reason. It might be time to retire it.

Yeah didn't sleep much that night due to having a clip in my mouth to hold the bar in place, maybe 3 hours. bought a load of ends from a head shop first thing in the morning.

I was actually hoping the bastard was as stupid as most people with tongue piercings are and burns his tongue away but I was also very drunk.

Must've been to suggest holding a lighter over something.
