Do you own any artwork?

There's an original Rolf Harris painting on eBay for £2.20, which I'm considering bidding on while everyone else is put off BT him being a filthy noncecase.

Look at this on eBay:

I realised yesterday that art occurs only in the minds of people. The creators intended meaning is irrelevant as far as perception goes. Its what we see that matters; what we make it mean. Art is a portal to our own minds. If we can-not see art in something, our thoughts are not deep enough to interpret it. To interpret ourselves.

Or is it that the creators communication of intention is art? Wouldn't that only make understandable 'art' 'good'?

I started out thinking I understood. Now I just don't know. I can see it all together in an intricately crafted maelstrom but trying to pick out a single point sends it all to chaos.

Your statement rings with very similar views to that of Roland Barthes in his essay 'The Death of the Author'. Personally I dislike it because I feel it leads to an arrogance in the view that their interpretation is the truth and that the authors opinion is irrelevant.

I take the position that art is a form of communication, and all communication is ultimately an attempt to convey one set of ideas to another person which has various problems because of misunderstandings of shared meanings and bias. To me a master piece is a work that conveys the author’s intention as perfectly as possible to another mind. This line of analysis will lead you to the conclusion that James Joyce was a pretentious over rated cunt, however.

I was tidying up yesterday and came across my copy of *The Art of Bruce Nicolls*. He's a schizophrenic alcoholic and it's a book of his child-like scrawlings. I bought it for £3 whilst waiting for the bus one evening in Fulham from his friend and editor of the book.

How easy would it be to have a go at creating my own artwork?

I doubt I've got the talent to do anything too intricate, but I don't see how something like this with a palette knife would be out of the realms of possibility with a little bit of practice and research.

Some of these aren't half bad.

Probably because of covid this is the first time she's picked up a pen in years, she just needs to avoid the childish and cartoony animal pics, and focus on the landscapes and the more abstract stuff like the giraffe and cow in these ones: >>5594

The price for the better ones is fine as long as those frames are included.
Anyway at the end of the day art is worth what people will pay for it, I'd rather have one of these on display in my house than the tacky mass-produced prints they sell in shops like the Range for twice the price.

Did artists in them days paint nude women without pubic hair or have they just faded over time? Would a professional restorer have to master the art of painting pubes back on?

I think most of the posts line up with Rolf Harris being in the news for one reason or another. Rolf getting done for diddling. Rolf dying as a diddler. That sort of thing.
