1625 Cleaning my bong?
Is white spirit and salt a safe combo for cleaning out my bong?

First one I've ever owned and don't want it to get trashed as I find it a delightful smoke.

I've been told rubbing alcohol is the best but wonder if white spirit, that I have, is a viable substitute?

Pic related, it's that one in green.

Cheers /eco/

what's the salt for? abrasion?

probably safer to stick to white spirit or paint stripper or something. I'm guessing even boiling soapy water would do it if you scrubbed a bit.

Also, please be careful with what solvents you are using on anything that you will be eating off of or breathing through.

Paraffin and its kin tend to be oily and while I use it for cleaning things in the shed it is not something I would use in the home, kitchen, catering and so on. It's not the same as ethanol.

There are plenty domestic safe cleaning options. No reason to risk it with anything unsuitable.

Denatured alcohol is fine, most other solvents aren't. As for whether its safe to clean your bong really depends on whether it's acrylic, glass or whatever other material it might be made from. For glass, almost anything is fine as long as you clean it thoroughly in plain water afterwards. For any of the plasticcy stuff… invest less in cleaning product and more in a new bong or in a glass one.

It's pure glass, and you fill it with grass.
