1815 Mycology.
May this place be for us to post our fungi finds this year? As much as I like eating these wonderful things, this thread may very well feature poisonous species.
The rain we've been having recently has brought up some early risers.
I myself, have already found species of Bolete and Amanita.
Pic is the amanita rubescens found today.

To make this thread worthwhile, Let's all do a rain dance

No need, the monsoon was well on time this year. It's been more or less raining non-stop for 24 hours now, much of it heavy.

Mmm... it's all kicking off early this year. I've found some fairy rings, little ruby boletes (both pictured), some very young common inkcaps and a couple of amanitas already.

I had hoped that this would be the spring of my local morel jackpot, but no.

A few more finds this weekend. Some early (and delicious) Ceps, Brown Birch Boletes, a very pretty Blusher (like the OP), a handful of charcoal burners. Shroooooooms!!!

I'd be interested in what the fungi action was like in your neck of the woods?
*not a euphemism.

Nice. Things are shaping up to be a very good year indeed!

You mean in terms of psychadelics or just in general?

I don't indulge in the first so can't really comment, although hippies I occasionally cross paths with seem to enjoy what they get here.

In general I don't know as I've not been out of town or the valley for a couple of months now due to work. I'm due an escape mid to late August when I will be in the mountain forests so will report anything I find then.

/eco/lads.

I never usually wander here but I just nipped into uni to grab a book and I saw this in one of the woody patches around the union.

Now, I remember a lad in /nom/ being pretty chuffed when he found one of these the size of his fist, and this one (as can be seen next to my size 10 foot) is about the size of a football.

I never picked it up because I had quite a walk home and I had my hands full, but is it worth going back for it? I don't really eat mushrooms but would it sell?

Well I threw out the 2 tiny fairy rings I found just to be safe, kept all but the open parasol and binned the monster bolete and a couple of the mankier looking ones... am about to fry up the remainder in butter and garlic, so if you don't see a thread in /nom/ about how delicious they were you can safely assume I'm dead.

Erm, I can't really help you identifying them but eating them when you don't know what they are is a pretty silly thing to do.

I have a cool looking mushroom in my garden, will try and get a picture tomorrow if the hurricane doesn't blow it away. Think it might be the same sort as in OPs picture.

Sage for being excited taking a picture of a mushroom.

Are you all identifying and eating where you can though? It's only half a job if you're taking pictures and not harvesting.

Went out yesterday and found loads of Boletus edulus(Cep), Hydnum repandum(Hedgehogs) and Craterellus tubaeformis(trumpet Chanterelles. I didn't take any pictures so you will have to take my word for it. I Had the Chanterelles in an omelette for breakfast and will probably make some sort of pasta dish with the Ceps and Hedgehogs.

>>1880 not having any luck down my way, we need some real rain in the south.

Do you only pick Ceps or other varieties of Beletes too? I found loads of these huge brown ones (see one of the blurry pics above) but they wearnt very good (tbh I was so nervous about eating them it would have been impossible to enjoy them)

I'm in the south. Things are much better then they were this time last year, mushrooms everywhere.
Can't be sure what you have from your pic but i'd take a gamble on leccinum scabrum or Xerocomus badius, which are everywhere at the moment and are both edible but, frankly, not all that.
You should never eat a mushroom if you cannot ID it 100%, therein lies madness (and death. This cannot be understated) But having said that, it's not hard to ID mushrooms positively with a little research from one or two field guides. Don't trust google for ID.
If you post pics here I will happily ID them for you, If I can.

Look at this photo. If anyone needed a clue as to where to find choice mushrooms then this image is a veritable gold mine of information. It's all here.
