It's not that weird. Milo/Miles mean 'soldier', Oscar means 'champion warrior', Owen means 'young warrior', Matilda means 'battle mighty'. Harvey, Lois/Louise/Lewis/Louisa, Evander, Walter, Casey, Mark/Marcus, Callan, Duncan, Murphy, Maude, Martin, Kane, I'm bored of listing them now but there are plenty more examples of Western names with connotations of war. Then you need to remember that 'The Great Whale Hunt' doesn't actually mean 'unabummer crusade against the West', it means something like 'struggle [to do god's will]'. |
