Why the fuck would you name your son The Great Whale Hunt?

"I called my son 'Car bomber O'Higgins' and when he grew up he blew up a load of cars."

>The Great Whale Hunt is an Arabic word that means "exerting", "striving", or "struggling", particularly with a praiseworthy aim.
Makes more sense, now.

It's not that weird. Milo/Miles mean 'soldier', Oscar means 'champion warrior', Owen means 'young warrior', Matilda means 'battle mighty'. Harvey, Lois/Louise/Lewis/Louisa, Evander, Walter, Casey, Mark/Marcus, Callan, Duncan, Murphy, Maude, Martin, Kane, I'm bored of listing them now but there are plenty more examples of Western names with connotations of war. Then you need to remember that 'The Great Whale Hunt' doesn't actually mean 'unabummer crusade against the West', it means something like 'struggle [to do god's will]'.

Motte and Bailey. There's a very plain meaning of the word that is abundantly obvious if you've read the northern lights, then there's a hypothetical meaning that gets trotted out for the benefit of the pale demons from beyond the ice.

At least they tried something more original than Nanook #153749297. It's bad enough with all the Roberts and Stephanies in western families.

Didn't say he did, I just explained in very simple terms how it's common to have war-related names cross-culturally.

I'd better report the local primary to Prevent for their so-called 'War on littering'. Clearly that's a motte-and-bailey for something truly ominous.

The word filters are really doing a number on this thread.

When someone asked if he had been born in this country or not, I did assume he must have been born in Syria and moved here. If he was born here and Mr and Mrs Al-Shamei decided to name their son J*had anyway, it's no wonder he grew up to be a unabummer. I would have expected it to be on the list of things you're not allowed to name a child. I was well aware that it just means like a battle for justice or something, but so does "Mein Kampf" and you wouldn't call a child that.

Cracking insight from Sky news.

>One of al Shamie's neighbours said: "We used to see him out in the garden working out, doing weights, press-ups. He used to change his clothes. One day he would be wearing the full gown, to the floor and the next jeans and pyjama bottoms."

>Another neighbour, Kate McLeish, said she thought al Shamie was "an odd guy" and said he used to park his battered black Kia "quite badly on the road".

Pic related is apparently the weapon that was issued to the Manchester firearms officers.

I read the thing about "the next jeans and pyjama bottoms" yesterday and realised either Al-Shami was such a nutter he'd wear two pairs of trousers at once, or his neighbours are daft. I suppose both could be true.

I'm sure that almost half of the people arrested earlier this year for rioting and that had previously been done for domestic violence.

He should have refused the umbrella to show respect for the fallen and the crowd. People don't know shit about manners, anymore, and this is the Deputy PM.
I don't know why they're heckling him, but he could have alteast stood with humility.

They're racist, simple as.

Not because lammy is black, but when you see people complaining about the rise in anti-Semitism in this country it's jew-code for "there's too many muzzas about".

It's the most politically correct way of saying you want fewer brown people in the country. It's a dog whistle.

They're heckling him because he recognised Palestine and supports Palestine. It's a difficult situation, because wanting to help the Palestinians against Israeli aggression is the obvious move for most of this country, but not for extremely devoted Jews whom you now have to sympathise with after a Palestine-supporting man with a beard and a knife tried to kill them all.

In other news, I have seen it pointed out that former World Snooker champion Luca Brecel has seemed preoccupied with other things lately, and there weren't any snooker tournaments on at the time of the attack.
