Is it safe to do glycolic acid peels on your helmet?
The top of my helmet has been left with a kind of grey tinge from a fungal infection I had years ago. I've been thinking of trying an acid peel to pink it up. Is this a bad idea?
You should never clean your helmet with any harsh chemicals or solvents. If you do this it may look perfectly fine afterwards, but can fail on you when you need it most.
Glycolic acid will do fuck all anyway. It's only removing the top layer of dead skin (which is falling off and being replaced daily naturally). Even if it does improve it, it'll be grey again within a couple of days anyway.
Also, your helmet isn't skin, it's a mucosal membrane, it's unlikely to respond to a peel in the same way as the skin on your face.
Also, don't apply any stickers to your helmet, don't leave it out in the sun and replace it every five years.
Seriously, I'd try moisturiser and a mild exfoliating wash before doing anything drastic. I think glycolic acid would burn like hell, especially if it goes down your jap's eye.
