I think most of the one's ive been to i've just passed through. In the others i've only really done the usual boring tourist things.
None of them really stood out for me although some are more scenic than others.

Is it bad that I don't know which of those shapes is my own county? I've been to dozens of countries around the world but I never travel anywhere in the UK.

I would have attached the names of the counties to the picture but doing so would have made it much harder to simply fill them in in paint.

That map of yours has completely neglected to plot the West Midlands and has instead driven a border straight through it, amalgamating it half into Staffs and half into Warwickshire.

I wanted to play. :(

This has made me realise I haven't really been to the north of England at all. Just mostly all of the south and some of the middle. Anything worth going more up north for in particular? Am I missing out?

Honestly? The people. Or at least I think so. Every Northener I've ever met has been completely sound, and it pains me that I have so many friends in Newcs/Durham/Yorkshire that I never get to see due to distance. I probably have a very biased sample though, but there seems to be something very homely about Northerners and their characters; it's a bit of a stereotype but all the ones I know are sensible, compassionate in an understated rather than overflowingly gushy way and just "down to earth" types in general. They just get on with it, and 9/10 they'll give you a tab if you ask politely.

It's a map of the Historic counties and the West Midlands isnt a Historic county it was created in 1974 to have a county for Birmingham, the Black country and Coventry.

Your view on Devon is wrong but the fact that you chose the best font of all time makes up for it.

Bristol isnt an ancient county. Firstly Bristol is hardly ancient it was granted city status less than 500 years ago. And Secondly on a more boring serious note the city sits on the border of Gloucestershire and Somerset, although it has been allowed to govern itself seperately from the two counties since the middle ages but so did a large number of other towns (according to Wikipedia's County Corporate article).

It is nonetheless a city with (historic) county status, and has been for a good couple of centuries.

Nah, it's shit. Just decent scenery and morons. There is scenery that's just as nice in Yorkshire, with the added plus of there being civilisation. Cumbria is just saaaad.
