15185 Mystery Food
I just got these frozen star things from the food bank and I have no idea what they are.

Can someone identify them?

Don't food banks have to have a vague idea of what they're giving to people? I assume you've no special dietary requirements, either personal or medical, so it doesn't matter per se, but I think they should be at least know if it's meat or mango.

Anyway, I'm guessing it's some kind of Christmas dessert. Do you have any idea how you're supposed to cook whatever it is?

Our food bank is run by the church and they just give away the food that shops have thrown out. I suppose these were thrown out because they're missing the cardboard sleeve.

Maybe it's battered starfish.

>I’ve been asked more than once…”Can you eat starfish and how does it taste?” The short answer is yes, you can eat starfish and it tastes very similar to sea urchin.

A true feast then.

How are you planning to cook it given the complete lack of context? Post pics.

Whack it in the oven at 180C until it looks like it's done.

>it tastes very similar to sea urchin

That is not a particularly useful analogy.

I tried raw limpet once, after watching an angler in Portugal pry them off the rocks to use as bait and at the same time having a bit of a snack for himself. With a bit of salt water on it, its taste isn't dissimilar to raw oyster, altough limpet is much more chewy, a bit more like calamari.

Probably a good addition to your diet if you're caught in a series of The Island with Bear Grylls, but there are better molluscs to eat.

Just cooked two of them and they taste like sausage meat. They have a vinegary smell to them as well which makes me think they might have thawed out some time and started going off. I've chucked them away.

Those remind me of the time I ordered Prawn Toast from Asda, and instead of two slices of toast cut into quarters, I got 5 fucking star-shaped pieces of buffet fare as a replacement. Asda did not get 5 stars on this occasion. Harrumph!

Maybe I'm a miserable old git, but does food being in a star shape improve it at all? When I'm eating pork stuffing with cranberry and apple, I never wished it was a star shape. Same thing goes for the turkey twizzler, just give me a slab of meat, not some ostentatious spiral. This obsession with show offy food is probably why Iceland closed down in my town, the British public are sick of this nonsense.

Stars aren't a good shape for food, but have you ever eaten triangular toast? It's magic.
