3500 Exercise thread!
Lads and ladettes, I know you all can't spend 24 hours a day stuck behind your macbook pros giving it large on /QI/. That's why I decided to start this thread, I want to hear about what sports you've been doing.

Personally I do a fair bit of cross-country running and on Monday I went to a climbing gym. I haven't climbed in a long while and towards the end of my session I could barely stand up. Felt bad at the time but I feel fucking awesome now.

I also went surfing last friday which was pretty hard work. Nice conditions slight drizzle to keep the grockles away but 3ft waves and very clean, made for some nice riding albeit on a really twitchy board I had borrowed from a ladm9.

So, jackanory time...

Moderators of britfa.gs are obviously seriously unfit lads who don't want to deal with their problem so refuse a /fit/ board.

I did propose /nhs/ as a joint board for medical horror stories and wellbeing threads, exercise would have fit right in.

I do a very boring 3x8 freeweight program Mon/Wed/Fri and cycle for about an hour Tues/Thurs/Sat.

It's fun though. Plus in like 30 years I'll have muskels.

Trying to work on my upper body at the moment without any weights. I can get to about 50 crunches in one go before failing at the moment but I think I need to reduce my fat levels to look properly ripped.

LOL

You're actually doing crunches?

Go get yourself a chinup bar at least and do some pushups and pushup variants.

(A good day to you Sir!)

Oh Christ, I remember this thread. I've been here for years, lads.

At least I'm in better shape than I was in 2011.

Me too, I've lost about 3 stone since then. It's also a bloody long time ago and that scares me.

But between me and you, at least 2/3 of the userbase have improved their fitness levels since the introduction of /fat/. That's an endorsement if I've ever heard one.

I've certainly gone to the gym more but I look the same physically, still weak and skinnyfat. I go through bouts of regular gymgoing, on an off period at the minute.

I'll go tomorrow, fuck it.

Are you tracking your progress? If not, then do so, because it does help.

I was going to start a new thread, but this seems like the right place for it:

How do I motivate myself, lads? I'm the sort of person that when I decide to do something, I do it, but sometimes I find it hard to get that to 'click' in my head. I'm wanting to lose a fair amount of weight (5 or 6 stone), but I'm finding it hard to kick my old junk food habits. How do you lot find the drive? Is it a constant battle with your lazier side, or is there something else?

We only have a relatively limited amount of willpower, so to make meaningful long-term changes, we need to form new habits. Don't bite off more than you can chew, work towards incremental progress and try to make things as automatic as possible.

If you intend to go to the gym tomorrow, pack your kit bag the night before. If you're trying to cut out unhealthy snacks, make those decisions at the supermarket rather than in the kitchen. Plan your meals ahead of time. Think about how you can structure your lifestyle to avoid moments of temptation and impulsivity, rather than relying on willpower.

I appreciate that, I do tend to want to go for the deep end, change my entire life approach. I'm impatient, I know I can't be in matters such as this.

My biggest problem is just grabbing crisps and shit on my way home, even though I have a fridge full of good food waiting for me. It's basically my habit now to binge on Doritos. I think what I need to do is make it easier for me to get a proper meal than junk, so maybe I'll start making food and keeping it in containers so I'm only ever three minutes reheating away from a home cooked meat and two veg.

This might seem counter-intuitive, but eat a bigger meal at lunchtime, it'll help keep you from buying snacks in the afternoon.

Amphetamines kill my cardio so badly it's not even funny.
