5170 studying abroad in summer
Lads I got accepted by my uni to go study in summer in China.

I'm a second year student and I've had some work experience already but wanted to get an internship to hammer home muh CV.

It's a really good uni and the course itself looks interesting and one in a lifetime kinda thing, I'd be there for 1-2 months.

Any opinions on this? Experiences? Will employers be impressed by muh study school in China or will they just think I'm a pleb who didn't get an internship?

Thanks m8s.

Have you tried doing some research elsewhere before you applied for the thing or since?

Sorry what do you mean?

I looked up the place if that's what you mean. Apparently it's a massively prestigious place in China and is very useful, great reviews etc.

I don't really know what you mean sorry? I'm a bit hungover though so excuse my retardation

Well things like 'is studying [x] in China worthwhile and why?'.

Basic research skills, lad.

Are you the same bloke that keeps making threads asking for advice on easily researchable topics, then insulting people who point it out?

This isn't like "Wot fone, lads?" Type topic. Do your own research somewhere that isn't an imageboard.

This is my first thread ever here and like my third post.

I've obviously done some readin outside of it and research but a lot of what you get is from the point of view of unis and businesses who set these things up and are biased.

I was wondering what the average group of students might think.

Again if it upsets you hide the thread, don't see why you'd waste your time posting otherwise

I remember one of the recruitmentlads bemoaning poor research skills as a constant when assessing candidates. I think it's fairly common for people to just turn up on the net and expect to be catered to.

What are you on about you autistic bastards? OP just wants some opinions and you're saying he needs to improve research skills. Honestly, get over yourselves

OP I'd say don't worry and go for it, at the end of the day it is a once in a lifetime travel opportunity and at worst you can tell employers you improved language skills, familiarised with unfamiliar surroundings and adapted to a new place.

Good luck

Advising someone to take some time to research something for themselves isn't 'being as unhelpful as possible'. I did a cursory search about 'studying abroad in China' and found out all kinds of things.

I'm sure you did find lots of things, and I'd imagine lots of those things come from someone with some kind of interest in having you study there or elsewhere, but they're no substitute for honest opinions, which should be an essential part of one's research for something like this. I certainly wouldn't have dreamt of taking such a drastic step as spending some time in China without asking some real people about it.

You are honestly a cunt. As somebody mentioned you get mostly the opinions of places that want you to do this, nothing can be better than a good honest opinion from a bunch of people in a similar situation to yourself (students)

Don't be so fucking dull. Only a fraction of students have studied abroad, much less in the PRC. The excuse that 'well most sources will be biased so I won't bother conducting any research' is a pretty poor one for just turning up on .gs expecting all the work to be done for you.

(A good day to you Sir!)

Oh get bent mate. I wasn't asking you what your exact story was. I'm sure there are threads about studying PHDS, certain subjects and in certain unis and people haven't been to every single one before they comment.

I don't want you to get me employment statistics and happiness stats or anything, I just wanted to ask people what they thought of the idea and if it sounded good and like something that would help or hinder my CV. Jesus fucking christ.

I'll just leave, what a shit forum. Even on 4chan nobody is autistic enough to comment on things saying how much they don't like the topic of the thread, they just hide it and move on.

Get a grip

There is no distinct "we" and "those who suck the life out everything". OP sealed this thread's fate with >>5177. He could have took his own advice and ignored someone clearly not willing to contribute, but instead he took the preceding posts as a personal affront - as many here are prone to do - and decided to engage aggressively and in so doing solicited more of the same.

I tried to address a wider point someone was making about our forum and again you've decided to become defensive and move your thread further away from its intended topic. Whether it was clear or not I wanted the opposite. The response to your thread was thoroughly unhelpful and I've done what I can in banning the worst offender. If you don't think you could have handled this abortion of a thread better - as maybe we all could have - then you have no business calling anyone an autist.

I doubt this will be of much help to the thread, but at least one of those lads was actually me, and I insulted no one for it. I tried to be polite about it and sincerely wanted to learn more. I got the point, but was also surprised by the volatility response.

i think I said something similar before, but no one expects you to do work for them. Sharing information can be an enjoyable thing, which is why places like this exist, surely. I see plenty of posts where someone knowledgeable offers advice. That's maybe why people are so comfortable asking loose questions. It's also not unusual at all for people to look for experiences from their peers. If you think personal research is important here, that's totally valid, but a better explanation of why you believe that might be worthwhile. It'd make a better thread, I think.

I think it's a good thing to do. Not done it myself as my courses haven't offered that sort of thing, but everyone I know who has studied abroad really enjoyed it, and if it's a once in a lifetime opportunity you should definitely go for it.

Also I think employers will be impressed by study in China. Obviously China is an important world power, and western businesses will want to forge closer ties with China in the future probably. As you'll have had some (albeit only a couple of months) of experience in the country, I can't see them viewing it as anything other than a positive.

Go for it, m8.

That isn't what you asked for.

Any answers I could give you would be researched myself, which is something you can do yourself.

It annoys people. The only person who could give an opinion that wasn't baised is someone who has studied in China, so all I can really say is "sounds lyk laf" which isn't helpful or sensible to base your career prospects on.

If you had made a thread saying "Decided to study in China, what do you all think?" People would have replied in earnest. However, the userbase didn't come here to do your research for you or to plan yor life for you. This isn't something transient like a phone recomendation.

Honestly, just do it. I can't see how it could possibly hurt your CV to have studied a summer in China and if you look at it like a sort of working holiday I'm sure it would be a blast.

Not the OP, but it seems like the best option in that case is not to post in the first place.

>However, the userbase didn't come here to do your research for you
... which is a relief, because the OP didn't come here to ask us to do their research for them.
