Lads, I have been getting a head start on my dissertation work but for weeks now I have been stuck on sending out emails to local bodies to get interviews (it features plenty of chances to get in touch with local government). Its just that I don't quite know what I'm doing and wish to avoid making a tit of myself.

Would you be able to provide any insight on doing this because I'm a bit shy at the best of times? Even some top tips would be helpful.

Call people, don't email them, if it's you that wants something from them. Yes, that sucks, I know, but you'll have to. And by all means do make a tit of yourself. That's how you learn. There are some things which only experience and practice can convey and getting things from people is one of them.

it'd be great to plan out some steps, and yeah call them people, call them, be a tiny bit agressive, but not intrusive. and when you do get the appointment for interview, plan out the questions you need, if you're shy (as you say) that plan thingie might help a bit.
