Scotland is fucking shite. I hate living here. Never ever move to Scotland. They offered me a £70k p.a. job and £15k relocation package to move here, I was naive to think that would soften the reality of it being a completely uninhabitable hole.

My dad's from Scotland. Every time we come back from visiting relatives he bangs on about how fucking great is to not live in Scotland. Commiserations mate, with luck you'll find a way out of the place.

Scotland's issue is that there are some really nice bits and things to do, but at least 2/3 of the time it's fukcking miserable.

I could put up with Scotland for £70k a year. If nothing else, that's enough money to get me out of Scotland every weekend without worrying about money, if I felt so inclined.

Scotland is alright. Free prescriptions, Lorne sausage and a vibrant counter-culture as well as a thriving gay scene.

Not enough bears for my liking though, not because I like them but because I'm a bear and I can't get a minutes peace.

Some of the best coarse fishing to be had anywhere round where I stay too, so I'm pretty lucky.

If you don't like being outdoors though, I suppose it would be a bit boring outside the cities.

It's fucking boring everwhere bearlad. I like climbing and outdoors shit but the climbing is actually pretty atrocious up here despite having so many mountains. The best place is Torridon but it's a mammoth fucking journey to get to and most of the climbing scene around these parts is populated by dickwads.

Being English in Scotland is pure shite as well, I'm surrounded by bitter scumbags who think "I've taken their jobs" and generally dont have the time of day for me because I don't talk fucking doric.

My parents moved us to Scotland when I was 10 and I was stuck there till I was 17. It was the middle of nowhere and this was about 1990-1996 and I didn't even have the internet for an outlet. I can't stand the place to this day. Last time I went to visit them I had to come home two days later.

Actually thinking about it, never mind about wherever the fuck it was. It was the early nineties, everyone was homophobic. Section 28 was on the statute books. The gay age of consent was 21. The other lad was talking about Scotland now, it was probably different everywhere back then.

That's true but openly gay people in Elgin are still pretty rare so it's not a "thriving gay scene". It's probably the same in many small towns in England. The whole of Scotland doesn't have "vibrant counter-culture as well as a thriving gay scene" but he's just saying what his experience was like and I'm just saying what my experience was like.

It's fucking great. Glasgow's alright too. And getting out into the mountains is brilliant.

I'm guessing the OP's in Aberdeen and the rest of you cunts in other shitholes.

Lordy. I spent four days in dear Edina couple of months back and felt like I was cooped up in a rabbit hutch. Wandering up the crags was a nice afternoon I'll admit, but I didn't find anything that'd make me want to stay there for more than a couple of weeks at most, if my arm was twisted up my back like.

I live in a (reputedly) rough estate in Stirling, it's not that bad. We rent a terraced house and apart from a loud party last weekend (celtic fans) it's pretty peaceful. According to a friend of mine there are about six drug dealers within five minutes walk of here so if you like that kind of thing it's fairly convenient.

Violent crime happens very occasionally, at least that I hear about, but it seems to be little gangs of neds battering other neds. I've had more aggro from job centre employees than I have from kids standing around the local shop, for example. The worst thing that's happened since I've lived here is getting into a snowball fight with some kids and getting my dick bruised by a little prick hurling a ball of ice as hard as he could, was all fun and games before that.

It's very obviously poor and alcoholism and drug dependency is fairly rife, from what I've seen on JCP schemes and sitting in community centres but people generally are just trying to get by.

Hah, small world. I know a McCallum, very vaguely through other friends, he also likes nerdy stuff like magic the gathering and such. That's one great thing about stirling, it's small but it has two places that run tcg and wargaming events throughout the week and the best roleplaying society I've ever heard of at the uni.
