I'd also add to get yourself to a decathlon if there's one near you, they've got a good selection as long as you don't mind buying stuff made in France.

Have a look for the plain Eastpak bags if you want something understated with reliable build. They have various sizes, I opted for the standard, everyday rucksack which has only a main compartment and a front one and it's simply exactly what it says on the tin.

I suppose it all depends what you want the backpack for.

I use a Gelert Rodisson 30. A nice, solid backpack with enough compartments for casual/semi-strenuous hiking or going around town. Padding in all the right places for a load up to 15kg or thereabouts.

Depends what you want it for. If you don't intend to go camping/hiking etc. then don't waste money on anything designed for such. You can get backpacks for a tenner at Sports Direct that are perfectly comfortable and don't make you look like an anorak neither.

If you do want something massive for camping, Eurohike are great.

Thanks all, I went for the Osprey Quantum 34L. I'll be using it for travel to and from work plus other urban pursuits. I'll give some feedback in due course.
