My friend's dog, she was a right little poser. She died recently of a heart attack. Such a shame.

I'm very much new to photography, and I barely put any time into it since my friend/mentor moved to America, but here's a few snapshots I've taken this year.

Here's one from Vegas. Such a photogenic city but it was just too hot to actually get out and take pictures.

I'm much the same really. I bought my camera because I have a motorcycle and end up in a lot of places where I've thought "This would make a nice picture". Unfortunately the camera broke not long ago, and I never got another due to money. Managed to order myself one the other day though, for those winter shots.

I really liked this capture, the way the trees get gradually more bare left to right.

My friend/mentor is a massive advocate of Photoshop so he was telling me I should "do something with it" and telling me off for shooting JPG and not RAW. I haven't really got the time for spending hours making a photo more artistic, but I couldn't really tell him that because he could just as easily turn around and ask why I bother taking the pictures in the first place.

I'm much the same. I couldn't care less whether it's artistic or not. However I seem to have an eye for pretty things, so if I see something I like, I'll snap it.

I bought an infrared filter after seeing a bunch of cool IR photos on Flickr, turns out the hot mirror in my camera is really good, so IR gets blocked out really well. This means that with my IR filter on, only a few wavelengths of red actually make it to the CCD.

These are from an old abandoned chapel that me and the girlfriend found in the woods.

I'll hold off in mine for a while, see if anyone else wants to post theirs.

I love photography, but I'm not particularly proficient in it. I'll still buy expensive cameras and lenses though because I'm an idiot.

I'm no expert either, but here are a couple of snaps I took on holiday earlier this year.

I like my old lens collection. Manual focus and aperture and such is a bit of a hassle, but they're easy enough to deal with that I managed wildlife photography with them.

Recently took a trip on the Glacier Express through Switzerland.
Though it boasts the slowest speeds of any Express train, it was still a little too fast for my consumer compact to focus a lot of the time, but I did take one or two keepers.

Due to competetiveness and such things most cameras around the same price are practically the same aside from ergonomics. The important bit on a DSLR is really the lens.

Best advice I can give you is to find somewhere that you can get a feel for a bunch of different cameras before you make any decisions. Aside from traditional SLR style cameras there's a large number of mirrorless system cameras to choose from too.

I'm also interested in good sites for photo blogs as I plan to set one up. It will mostly be nature and travel type pics.

On topic: a small set from last summer - various houses in the town of Sjøholt, Norway. I left my camera at home and had to buy a couple of cheap disposables at the airport which I ended up having a lot of fun with.

If you want to get reblogged on tumblr you need to have followers, which necessitates reblogging other people first to catch their attention. Helps to follow and reblog tumblrs with similar/relevant content to your own and it also helps to have a focused theme.

I could also recommend Flickr or Deviantart if you're looking for photo/art communities, leaning towards Flickr for the photography focus.

It's really a negligible difference between them, the photos will mostly be determined by your abilities as a photographer. Just go into a shop and get whichever one feels good in your hands. Regardless of which you buy it will be obsolete in a year or two.

Just dropping a few of the Moscow metro I took, sadly only on my phone. I'm not from a big city, so underground's are kind of alien to me anyway, but I was really enamoured with the grandiose imperial artistic style of the metro stations built under Stalin. They aren't beautiful, but they certainly are a pleasure to travel around compared to grimy London stations.
